About Coaching
Is this therapy?
No — and that’s an important distinction. Therapy tends to focus on healing the past and diagnosing what went wrong. Coaching is forward-focused. We start from where you are right now and work toward where you want to go. That said, coaching and therapy can complement each other beautifully. If I ever feel you need support beyond what coaching offers, I’ll tell you honestly.
How is divorce coaching different from talking to a lawyer or mediator?
Lawyers and mediators handle the legal and logistical side of divorce. I handle you — the emotional weight, the decision-making, the identity questions, the fear, the guilt, and the rebuilding. Most clients find that having emotional clarity actually makes working with their legal team easier and less expensive, because they come to those conversations grounded and clear instead of reactive.
Do I have to be in the middle of a divorce to work with you?
Not at all. Some clients come to me still weighing the decision. Others are in active proceedings. Some have already signed the papers and are figuring out what comes next. Wherever you are in the process, there’s a place for coaching — and a version of this work that meets you there.
What if I’m not sure I want a divorce yet?
That’s actually one of the most common places to start. You don’t need to have made a decision to begin coaching. In fact, getting clarity on your values and what you truly want is often how the decision becomes clear. You won’t be pushed in any direction — this is your process, at your pace.
About Working with Shenny
Why do you work specifically with people who initiated the divorce?
Because that’s where the gap is. Most divorce support is built for people who didn’t see it coming. But the initiator carries a very specific kind of pain — guilt, isolation, self-doubt — that almost nobody talks about. I’ve lived it myself. I know this experience from the inside, and I built my practice around it because this is the support I wish I had.
Do you work with men and women?
Yes — I work with both. The initiator’s experience is universal. The guilt, the isolation, the second-guessing — it doesn’t matter who you are. If you chose to leave, you deserve support. My own experience is as a woman, but the emotional landscape of the initiator transcends gender, and I’ve found deep connection with clients of all backgrounds.
Are you going to tell me whether I should get divorced?
Never. That is not my role, and frankly it’s not anyone’s place but yours. My job is to help you get clear on your own values, your own needs, and your own truth — and then support you in making the decision that’s right for you, whatever that turns out to be.
What are your credentials?
I’m an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credentialed by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) — the global gold standard in professional coaching — and a Certified Divorce Coach through the Center for Divorce Coaching (CDC), with specialized training in Transition and Recovery of the divorce process. I also bring something no certification can teach: I’ve been through this myself, as the person who initiated.
About the Logistics
About the Logistics
How do sessions work?
All sessions are held virtually via GoogleMeet, one-on-one, and completely confidential. Sessions are 60 minutes (or 30 minutes for the free discovery call). You’ll receive a calendar link to book at a time that works for you, and a meeting link will be in the calendar invite.
How often do we meet?
That’s flexible and entirely up to you. Some clients prefer weekly sessions for more intensive support. Others prefer biweekly to allow more time for reflection and action between sessions. We’ll figure out the right cadence together on your discovery call.
What does the free discovery call involve?
It’s a relaxed, no-pressure 30-minute conversation where you share a little about where you are and what you’re hoping for, I share how I work, and we both get a sense of whether it’s a good fit. There’s no obligation to continue and no sales pitch. You’ll leave with clarity either way.
What if I start a package and it’s not working for me?
I want this to be right for you — not just a transaction. If at any point the work isn’t feeling valuable, I want to know. We can adjust our approach, our focus, or our pace. Open communication is part of how I work, and I take it seriously.
Are sessions confidential?
Completely. What you share in our sessions stays between us, in accordance with the ICF Code of Ethics. The only exceptions are standard legal requirements that apply to all coaching professionals — which I’ll walk you through before we begin.
